Not getting any hits on Ancestry but its conecting me to a tree (hahahaha) and looking at it the person has taken infomation from "Ancestry Family Tree" not checked it out as had him born in Ireland all other children born before him and after plus his parents born in Coltburn, Ayrshire, Scotland.

Could it be that he was born in Scotland but sailed to Canada from Ireland.

Thanks for the info, have seen that before and discarded it as he did not come to Canada. I am five generations of the Robert Sloan who lived in Ontario after coming to Canada around 1820-22, can't find any info on that or his siblings.

OK I read somewhere that he went to Canada with his Mother and Siblings and have you looked for his marriage in Canada that might have his fathers name on it.
Have you got a tree on Ancestry.

You need to look for the marriage cert. for Robert Slon and Eliza/Elizabeth as they married in Canada if they are the same as ours it shold have Both fathers name on it.

I have just found a marriage of a William Sloan (Widower) aged 65 born Co Antrim (he would have been born arround 1814 to Margaret McPhee (Widow)His Parents are Robert and Nancy Sloan.

Could this be a clue to his family.

Have you checked the local newspapers for obituaries of all those who died in the Halton area? While 1844 is rather early for a really useful obit., some of the later ones might be helpful. One for my great grand in 1914 (or it may have been 1904 for her husband)in Thorold named her father which I have eventually proved after 40 years. There was no other clue or document. pwholt
