    Default Home Office service

    Hi

My paternal grandfather was a despatch rider for the Home Office during WW2. He lived in South East London, and my father says that he was delivering messages to secret/military locations any time of the day or night.

Does anyone know whether his would have a service record at the National Archive, or somewhere else?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Tor,

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

'Service record' usually relates to a member of the army. navy, or RAF.
If your father was employed by the Home Office I don't think he would have a service record as such. Whether an employment record exists I have no idea, and would suggest that you contact The National Archives direct.
Apologies for this not being the most helpful reply.

    Hi Pam

It was the answer I thought I might receive, thank you. I'll contact the National Archives.

    Thanks again.
