Unfortunately, I can't see where it says the WW2 records will be free, and definitely not this weekend..
You need to read the article very carefully.

"The digitised records will be released via the Forces War Records and Fold3 military subscription websites with an index of the records also available via Ancestry which is offering seven days of free access to its military records from 7 November to mark Remembrance Day."

Further on in the article, it does say that you can access the WW2 records if you have an All- Access Ancestry sub.

Note that the vast majority of the records are for medal cards, and not service records.

    My apologies for misleading people.

However, I think that it will be worthwhile people seeing what they can get free during those seven days, and this weekend you will be able to create a list of those that are available to access. Of course that may not cover all the people you are looking for, but you will have to keep checking over the next couple of years as they load more and more records.

A little bit more about the WW2 records on Ancestry.
Start here with Peter Calver's latest Lost Cousins newsletter https://www.
    lostcousins.com/newsletters2/nov24news.htm
Scroll down to: First WW2 records online at Ancestry
    When Peter says
"Fortunately there was one here, in a blog post by another company in the Ancestry family" he's referring to Forces War Records. Hopefully you can all access
    https://blog.forceswarrecords.com/ww...ards-released/
You need to read all of it, especially near the bottom when it explains why you might not be able to find Medal Cards for certain regiments. (As in 'they/some of them were destroyed'.)

Also a reminder that Ancestry are offering free access to their global military records for WW1 from now until I believe 23.59 on 11 November. Start here https://www.
    ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/catalog/?keyword=military&limitToCountry=0
then use the filters on the left-hand side of the page to select the country/area, and dates.
It lists all the military records you can access on Ancestry so it will include WW2 and earlier than WW1, but you can always search the indexes ready for when you're perhaps flush enough to take out a short sub to Ancestry, or when Ancestry have an offer for all records to be free for a short while. (e.g. Christmas or New Year)
