This thread is for my Jacobs distant cousins and focuses on David Jacobs 1819-1869 and David Henry Jacobs 1827-1906 and their glass making designs.
I have recently read the various posts on the glass message discussion site beginning 4 February 2020 which included data on David Jacobs and David Henry Jacobs and their patents for pressed tumblers and goblets. The data included images of the tumbler designs and details of the patents which were lodged at the National Archives UK. Details of the patents can be seen online at the National Archives website.
The discussion group included census and other data on the two David Jacobs with questions regarding whether or not they were glass dealers and cutters as opposed to glass manufacturers.
The Jacobs family tree website provides significant records and information on our Jacobs relatives and associated lines. Further data can be seen on JewishGen UK Data base 1851 Anglo Jewry Data base, Synagogue and Cemetery Scribes records including will extracts, burial records, mini family trees, The Jewish Chronicle Archives, The Jewish Victorian. Genealogical Information from the Jewish Newspapers 1861-70 and 1871-1880 transcribed and edited by Doreen Berger 1999,2004 Publisher Robert Boyd.
The glass discussion group raised further questions regarding the relationships between the two David Jacobs.
The Patent Designs for the glass tumblers and goblet included:
David Jacobs Design 116444 33 Haymarket London 27 October 1858 and at same address 21 Sept 1865
David Henry Jacobs 64 Crown Street pressed fluted leg mirror bowl goblet 19 Dec 1861 and 23 Nov 1865.
The Jacobs Family tree website identifies the relationships between the two Davids. David Henry Jacobs 1823-1904 is ID 17280 in the 1851 Anglo Jewry Data base and in 1871 was the first Jew to be elected Master of a City Livery Company ( The Ancient Guild of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers). He appears at 50 Crown Street in the 1820s and at 64 Crown Street 1830s-1860s and 7 Sun Street 1870-1900s- there is reference to a marriage to Mary Ann Broadfoot in 1900 but this requires confirmation. In the 1861 Census he is living at 64 Crown Street.
I will provide further data.

The family relationships between David Jacobs 1819-1869 and David Henry Jacobs 1823-1904 is very close and includes cousin marriage. David Jacobs 1819-1869 is ID 1833 on Jacobsfamilytree and ID 18529 in the 1851 Anglo Jewry Data base. His parents Moses Jacobs and Sarah Levy. Moses Jacobs parents Henry Jacobs and Kitty Moses ( Rachel bat Moshe Cohen).
David Jacobs married Matilda Rebecca Jacobs c 1822/24-1888- her parents Henry Jacobs born abt 1793-1862 and Elizabeth Myers b abt 1797-1877. Henry's parents Philip Jacobs b abt 1771-1845 and unknown.
Philip Jacobs was at 14 Artillery Place Artillery Street Bishopsgate in 1814 and in 1826 at 64 Crown Street Finsbury a glass manufacturer in 1841 Census- other addresses are recorded in Insurance policies.
Philip Jacobs and Henry Jacobs (husband of Kitty Moses) were brothers. Their father David Jacobs aka Letson aka Litzen was from Germany and in the glass trade ( see Jacobsfamily tree data and records).
David Henry Jacobs sister Matilda Rebecca Jacobs married David Jacobs 1819-1869.
The images of the glass tumblers/goblets and associated Patent suggest that there maybe other records at the National Archives related to glass designs and factory details.Phillip-Jewish,British Ancestry

I don't suppose that they had an opticians branch of the family? I was checking someone else in a register of 16-19 century instrument makers and noticed Wolf Jacobs, optician in business 1835-1848 in Holborn....

Hi Lesley
He is not one of my Jacobs. See JewishGen UK Data base 1851 Anglo Jewry Data Base Woolf Jacobs b 1786 ?Poland ID 25266 and 1851 Census HO 107 1515 222 -36 Great Saffron Hill General Dealer. I noted on the Jewish London Traders data base that he was a salesman and dealer in clothes in 1824 at 36 Saffron Hill and by 1829 also an optician and by 1837-39 an optician and furrier and in 1846 a spectacle maker. His first name appears as Wolfe and Woolf.
Hope this helps.Phillip-Jewish,British Ancestry

Thanks Philip, I was hoping to have helped you! It’s a hard book to find outside professional science libraries… It was the location, Holborn, I was checking.
