Hello, my great-grandmother died 2nd December 1946 at age 35. Per her death certificate she died at “The Hospital, Barming Heath, U.D.”. I am assuming this is Oakwood Hospital. I am wanting to determining when she was admitted to the hospital and for what reason she was admitted. I know kentarchives.org.uk may have the information I am after but considering 1946 was less then 100 years ago I am assuming these records are closed. Is anyone able to offer any advice on how to request access to records that are closed as well as what sort of records I should be requesting? Any advice welcome. FYI I am located in Australia. I apologise, I am a very amateur family historian.

I would simply email them with the information that you have laid out above, and asking them whether or not they have any records relating the hospital in question, and if so would it be possible to get copies of the records relating to your great grandmother.
The 100 year rule tends to apply to those who have not be shown to be dead.

Thank you! I did send them an email soon after posting this - thought it might be worth a try. I do have her death certificate although not a certified copy but will hope for the best
