    Default Probate

I often come across Probate records that seem to show the estate value going to a named Solicitor. Would this be the case when the beneficiaries of the will have pre-deceased? Would it be the case that there are no next-of-kin to inherit? Would it then be the case that the solicitor forwards this sum to the Treasury?

I think you're confusing the person who has the responsibilty of dealing with the will with the person/people who are inherting.
If you're looking at the Probate Calendar the names given are the person/people responsible for paying out the money/goods of the inheritance. They may well be named in the will but you can only find that out by sending for a copy of the will. (Cost you £1.50.)
