A 1965 death certificate probably won't give a lot of information, but the informant is usually (but not always) a family member. His address may also provide clues - perhaps it ties back to a known address of your father. For a small financial outlay its certainly worth ordering.

Military records for that period are not available online, and in order to get them you need to provide certain information first, such as a death certificate, full name etc
