What NZ District is abbreviation WLD?

I am transcribing for the Britons Died Overseas project, and I have found a couple of people who died in NZ, district given as "WLD". Ahaura is one of the places said to be there. I want to add it to my abbreviations list, but I don' know what it is short for. Anyone know? (This would be 1860s, so might be an old term).

Could it be an abbreviation for Westland, Barbara?

That looks possible, thanks. The original compiler of the hand-written cards used the whole word "Southland" sometimes, so Westland might be right. My NZ geography isn't very detailed, I'm afraid.

Ahaura is not far from Greymouth which is WEST COAST New Zealand - therefoe WLD is Westland
