Can anyone tell me how I look at other member's family trees on Ancestry, without actually entering a record and looking at hints? I have tried so many different ways and just don't seem to be able to do it. Sure there must be a way.

Not quite sure what you mean, Sue.
From the 'search' drop-down menu I select Public family trees.
Then I just enter a name, some other detail such as birth year, place, etc, then look at the trees shown in the results.Vulcan XH558 - “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”

When I search though, I only seem to be able to see my own trees. I know there is someone else with the same tree as I have been in contact. They compared a person in their tree to one in mine and I just wondered how they looked at it.
Also, I replied to a thread and there was an answer advising that there is a tree on Ancestry showing the person being search for.
I don't have the "Public Family Trees" option, or am I searching in the wrong place!
