I have recently acquired the WWII military records for my aunt who served in the WAAF for a couple of years before a discharge on compassionate grounds - my uncle had been medically discharged from the Army and needed her care and they were about to marry.
My aunt's records are heavily redacted as to marriage, next of kin etc. but tell me a bit about her service.
Aunt was posted to Debden (?) and what looks like Hansden (?) and seemed to have been back and forth between the two. She only attained the rank of ACW2 and her son believes she worked in the mess at Broxbourne in Hertfordshire as she was not physically strong as a young woman.
In the section for postings dealing with the above there is the abbreviation 'BIRC' but I can't find out what this might have meant.
Any ideas? Thanks.
