Default LEAH JACOBS b 1836-BETHLEM HOSPITAL RECORDS

This new thread is part of ongoing research identifying those family ancestors who received treatment at Bethlem Hospital suffering from mental health issues.

In this post the focus is on Leah Jacobs b 1836 the daughter of Lewis Jacobs and Milcah Levi- see JacobsFamily tree-the Home of the Jacobs Family website and Synagogue Scribes Marriages, 1851 Anglo Jewry Data base JewishGen for data on the line.

The Bethlem Patient Records show that Leah age 19 a servant was admitted to Bethlem by her mother Milcah Jacobs 1 Horseferry Road Westminster St.Johns. The names of family members were also recorded as part of the County Union or Parish to which chargeable- Solomon H Cohen glass dealer 1 Broad...?; Solomon Jacobs Rag merchant 4 Midway Street Westminster
Leah was admitted May 10 1856 and discharged as cured 9 May 1856.
Her patient records describe her as "Excited imagination dwelling chiefly on high engagement- dressing outre and most destructive of furniture, books, wearing apparel etc..
Destructive tendancy as above and personally having once been removed by the Park Keeper from the water in St James Park and on another occasion a razor was found in her bosom.. That of late her temper became very intolerable, disobedient to those whom she had been before very obedient-calling upon persons she had not seen before and acting in a strange manner.. On the ward she laughs and tears her clothes, strikes other patients, dirty in her habits, takes food heartily, sleeps little, noisy at night .. she alludes to herself as a Queen"

She was described on admission as thin but healthy -Manical

Her parents were Lewis Jacobs aka Eliezer Lipman Jacobs 1792-1853; Milcah Levi 1796-1867.

I will post census data on Leah and her siblings/parents.

Currently, I do not have a death record for Leah and census records for appear to cease post 1861.

As per my 1st post there appear to be no census records on Leah post 1861 -this maybe because she married, died or was placed in an institution. Further research is needed.
