can anybody help me with an abbrv on my uncle's military record? I think it is to do with his discharge the abbrv is Para 519 (iv). His record is far from exemplary which is a shock, to be honest. He served in the 2nd Batallion Coldstream Guards Sv No. 2659036. I know he was wounded in March 1943 but was lead to believe it was very serious but the records show otherwise. Was he discharged due to the wound or because of his behaviour? Thank you

Welcome to the Brit-gen forums
Here is a list of abreviations for the British army in WW11.
Para = paragraph, so paragraph 519 but where located I don't know.
Someone with more knowledge of the subject will be along to help.

Added: King's Regulations [KR] which were regularly re-issued is where the abbbreviations are listed. So KR followed by a number refers to the year that edition was printed.Sometimes paranoia is just having all the facts.

Para 519 refers to Paragraph 519 in the King's Regulations.

I've found a copy of the 1912 Regulations but there's no (iv) in Para 519, so I'm stumped.Vulcan XH558 - “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”

hello
Yep, I found that out but wanted the explanation of the (iv) which I couldn't find. Am I right in thinking that after WW2 all soldiers are kept on a Reserve list after discharge and that my uncle was taken off because of the civil conviction? He was wounded in March 1943 in North Africa, I believe, and family folklore had down as a bit of a hero, well that's been blown out of the water, he apparently deserted, LOL!! That injury left him infertile so I imagine he wasn't too enamoured with army life!!
