Your opening post mentions Walter losing his leg, aged 68. There is a short report of the accident in the Tamworth Herald,23 Jan 1937, where he was knocked down by a motor lorry, which led to his left foot being amputated.

Correction - the No is 906, not 406, apologies

If you go to the search page on ancestry click on Explore By Collection View All in the RH column.
On the next page in LH column type Boer War in the Keyword box then on search. You should get 5 titles referencing aspects of the Boer war. Whether it will be of any use??
You could also use the very long way around by browsing through all the titles in Explore by Collection.
