    Default Latin Marriage Entry 1609/10

I only want the SECOND entry transcribed please. I have included the first as some words are clearer and it is the Sister of the Bride in the second entry. It is the 16 year old Groom of the second entry that I am related to.

If I could read the writing I could translate the Latin. My best guess so far is:

Johnanis(John) GELL de Hopton in Count Derbie ?????? et Elizabeth
    WILLUGHBIE filia(daughter) Per: (Percival) WILLUGHBIE milit(soldier) ?????
    ????? 22 January 1609 ? ???????

    Thank you,
    Mitch

You've done pretty well so far - this is how I read it, with contractions expanded:

Johanes Gell de Hopton in Com[itate] D[er]bie Armig[er] et Elizabetha
Willughbie filia Per[civall] Willughbie Milit[is] mariti
    fuere 22 Januarij 1609 p[er] licentia[m]

'fuere' is a variant of 'fuerent' - I seem to remember that it's also found in classical Latin, and as it's not marked as a contraction here, I haven't expanded it. The phrase in full would be 'mariti fuerent'.

    Is that enough for you?

Thank you Arthur I thought you might come through with that. Much appreciated.

I presume 'mariti fuerent' means 'were married' in this context?

    Thanks again
