I have been searching for years for my grandmother's, fathers' history. My grandmother was Clarice May Martin. Her father was Joseph John [B]Martin and he married Mary Jane [B]Thewlis in Victoria in 1891. I have researched the Martin side extensively, along with the Stradlings who he married, but have no dna matches. I do have dna matches to the Thewlis family.
I am wondering if Clarice is not Josephs biological child and if so how do I find out?

Do you have Clarice's birth certificate?
As far as I know, DNA matching is not universal. It relies on who submits what DNA to the company. What do they say in their literature about their matching service.

Did Joseph & Mary Jane have any other children, and if so, do you know whether any of their descendants have tested? If they have and they have matches but you don't, then you have your answer. That's how I discovered that my grandmother's named father was not her biological one.

Jomot1, they had one other child and older sister of Clarice. I have tried to find out about her but so far no one has any information about Clarice.
