The National Archives have lots of research guides dealing with the navy:

It would have been quite unusual to have middle names as early as 1786. There is a Harry Bibby baptised Liverpool 21 Feb 1785 (born 23 Jan 1785) to parents Thomas (a mariner) & Hannah Bibby of Pot House Lane.

Any relation to the Bibby's that now live in Cambridgeshire?

I am certain the person I want is Henry but not certain about middle name. I will look furtjer into Harry as the early Bibbys were in seafaring

There is a burial record for a Henery Bibby in Liverpool. Age 58 a Mariner buried 25 August 1844. Born 1786. Any idea who he married? There is an entry for Feb 1815 to Mary Ann Banks, St Peter, Church St. Liverpool. Also an 1841 census entry in Toxteth Park, a weaver living with wife Ann and son Henry. There seems to be quite a few entries for Bibby's in the Liverpool area.

I had an uncle Henry Joseph but he was always known as Uncle Harry.
