Here family History-
History
The SCHANDY family formerly from Risör, a small fisherman port in southern Norway, has been greatly entailed with the sea since its origins, forging captains, ship owners, seamen and tradesmen in all the generations. The Schandy name goes back to the XVI Century with Irish Dion SHANNON (1773), whose son THOMAS DION SCHANDY emigrated to Risör, Norway.
Is it Possible to trace John/Jack Shannons family or were in Ireland he was Born.
Mikkel.

I think from your first post you realise that John is sometimes Jack. Just to clarify, in English Jack has traditionally been the short or pet form of John.
You've also hit on the issue of Latin names, which are used in Roman Catholic registers. Most of these are fairly obvious, but sometimes there's more than one English equivalent for a name in Latin. And in Latin, the ending of a name changes to reflect its grammatical case (nominative, genitive etc).
The names that Pamela has listed, with their equivalents, are:
Joannes - John
Dionysii (Dionysius) - Dennis/Denis
Aliciae (Alicia) - Alice/Alicia
Jacobo (Jacobus) - James/Jacob
Maria - Mary/Maria
Ricardo (Ricardus) - Richard
Finally, don't worry too much about the exact spelling of surnames. They are frequently found with different spellings, and where someone has gone to another country it's almost inevitable that if they don't know the exact spelling themselves, the people in the new country will make a best guess. 'Schanon' in the Danish extract seems a pretty good attempt, and probably just reflects that the same sound is represented by 'sh' in English and 'sch' in Danish (I think).

But John Shannon was born in about 1765 Dead 1831.
Baptism of JOANNES SHANNON of N/R on 26 September 1791
Pamela found this one But my John was born about 1765?
So Dion would or Could be Dennis/Denis.
Will it be possible to find the right John Shannon or to locate him or his Family Parents.
Here Jonhns Marriage April 8 1803. it says Age 30 then he would have been born in 1773 not 1765.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/b...49258,24679155
Right page corner
Could he have been arriving by Ship in the 1790 ties.
He worked in Denmark for this man Charles August Selby.

Could you find some John Shannons born about 1765 that could have been mine John Shannon.
Mikkel.

I assume John Shannon was Roman Catholic. Very few RC parishes in Ireland have records for the mid 1700s. There are a few in large cities like Dublin and Cork but most rural parishes didn’t keep records till the 1820s or later in some cases. So any search is going to be very hit and miss.
