Default No - not that sort!

I was looking for someone in the 1921 census, and their occupation was 'roundabout proprietor'.

I was thinking 'how can someone own a roundabout on a public road?' when I happened to glance at the next column which said 'fairground'.

My brain thought fairground, then what type of roundabout, 1921 it would have been steam driven, so lots of colour and smells

I know it says Victorian, but I don't think the gallopers really changed much in essence - only in the way they were powered - up until at least the early 1990s which was about the last time I went to the local May Fair.

ADDED: Just been scratching my head trying to think what was the ride that was similar to the Waltzer - it was the Whip. Took me years to pluck up the courage to go on them. My favourite used to be the Cakewalk. (Filmed at Skeggy, no less. ) https://www.
