So, he was in the 2nd Battalion 60th Regiment of Foot.
Can't see him in any medal rolls on Ancestry, but their indexing is poor.
You may have a hard time identifying him.

My ancestor, Thomas married in France in 1853 and lived there until his death in 1877
I don’t even know if he was French in 1877.
Anyway, the "J." can’t be him.
Could this medal, which is therefore in France, have been offered to his father, John Poole (1791-1861), who remained in Great Britain until his death?
I don’t know about the British wars, I don’t know how old a man could be to go to war.
Can this medal be that of John, his older brother, born on 16/12/1821 of John Poole and Harriet Wilson?
Would he have been old enough to fight the war for which this medal was awarded?
Can you help me answer these questions, you who know the British wars and how the British army works

Muriel, This medal was awarded in respect of three campaigns in Southern Africa 1834-1835, 1846-1847 and 1850-1853. No campaign clasps were issued and it is impossible to tell when and where the recipient served without reference to the medal rolls. The majority of recipients were British soldiers and several hundred were issued to sailors in the Royal Navy.

The 60th Regiment was The Kings Royal Rife Corps which is part of the light infantry. They were awarded a battle honour "South Africa 1851-53 South Africa/Gaikas". They were not present at the 1835 and 1856 campaigns.
The Kings Royal Rifle Corps were redesignated the 2nd Battalion Green Jackets in 1958.
