Different name but there is a possible marriage in Manchester 1857 where a James Horan and an Ellen Howard appear on the same page in the Free BMD website. Lancs OPC have baptisms of Catherine Horan 1859 and Ann Horan 1864 at St Patrick's Collyhurst Manchester. Parents James Horan and Ellen Howard.
Do Catherine and Ann appear in your family?

Have you looked on a map to see how near, or far away, their birthplaces were? Although people travelled further from home than we tend to think if the places were some way from each then there's a likelihood that Ellen and James met when they came to England.
How long ago did you look for a marriage for them in Ireland? New records are being placed online almost every day so you could look on Monday and find nothing and literally the next day - bingo! I know some online Irish records were updated recently but I can't remember which ones.Vulcan XH558 - “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”

I have found a marriage record of James Horan and Ellen Howard that made me hopeful so I ordered the certificate. Date of the marriage was June 1857 and James' father's name was George, but Ellen's father was named Patrick. My 2 grandmother's father was named James.
I also found a birth record for George Horne and ordered the certificate. Date of birth was June 1858, which falls in the range of birth years I have previously found. Father's name listed as James Horne and Mother listed as Ellen Horne (formerly Howard), so this is very possibly my George's birth certificate, which would be a major breakthrough for me. He was born in the Ascots section of Manchester, near St. Patricks Church in Collyhurst.
