    I was asking somebody if they knew what a cause of death listed as "general paralysis" might be when it occurred in a lunatic asylum in 1877, and they pointed me to:

    A couple of years ago I was checking farmhouse residents for my OPS, and in one found a fairly young titled lady with the housekeeper as Head of Household, said Lady suffering from “general paralysis”… Assorted searches led to London Society newspaper stories with reports of her middle-aged husband getting into all sorts of trouble with show girls, etc. Her only son reported her death, etc.
    Of course, it was long before the cause of the infection was known. He didn’t outlive her by much.
