Th death in Feb 1907 is registered in Belfast, that would account for the probate being in London when the residence was Manchester. On one of Clement's children's marriage certificate Clement is stated as being a Cabinet Maker.

My point was that as Clement died in Belfast did he have a connection to Ireland and could he have been there and not in England when the 1861 census was taken. Unfortunately the Ireland 1861 census and later ones, prior to 1901, were intentionally destroyed by the government after statistical information had been collated from the manuscripts. https

Edited to add that the surname Halway seems to be popular in Ireland after doing an all censuses search o ancestry.

I just did a search for Clement Channing Chappell to see what came up. Also looked for a marriage for John and Mary (I know you gave us the date previously). I am wondering if there COULD be two Clement's. One thing in your post number 10 do you mean that John was a Reverend (Clement's father)?. I have looked at the churches in Yaxley and also on the web generally but cannot find any mention of a Reverend John Chappell.

Just been puddling around to try and find something of use.Another of John's sons,John Theophilus Chappell,marries in Hackney on 25 Dec 1856,his father's trade or calling is recorded as "Jeweller".
Notes in post 10 are taken from Yaxley PR's on CD.
This may have to sit and stew for a while.

What a mess these pages are on ancestry. I can only read one or two of the occupations. Does the first word of John's occupation end in 'ting' maybe? It is a bit clearer image on FMP than ancestry and the second word maybe minister?

The drewry.net website describes him as a dissenting minister.
