I have a marriage certificate where profession of the bride was a "Brass Winder". Could anybody tell me what a brass winder did. The marriage took place in Long Eaton, Derbyshire in 1927.

Brass winder would appear to be something to do with lacemaking, not quite clear exactly what they did, but refer to https://repository.uel.ac.uk/downloa...%20%281%29.pdf

Checking the newspapers the bulk of adverts referred to "Brass Bobbin Winders" and applied mainly to Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire and the lace trade.
Derby Daily Telegraph, 28 Oct 1927
"Wanted, experienced plain net brass bobbin Winder, used to winding off jack - Apply Melbourne Lace Co, Osmaston Road.""dyfal donc a dyr y garreg"

Thanks for all the help, particularly the newspaper adverts which applied to the lace trade. The lady in question’s father was a lace maker and they lived in an area where there were lace making factories. I think “brass winder” was actually “brass bobbin winder”. Bobbins were made out of different materials and this lady likely worked in a factory winding the bobbins which were made out of brass. https://laceincontext.com/tag/bobbin-winder/
