on the Commonwealth War Graves website (CWGC) there are 171 entries for gentlemen named Bir Singh, but none have the relevant numbers 6295 or 295

I haven't been able to match the name and numbers anywhere

Reading a description of the book (which was published in 2014), the answer to your question appears to be 'no'. https://www.

as whimsy says the great war forum is a pretty definitive source for information from WWI for all regiments. If they don't know the answer then no one will. Indian Soldiers are notoriously difficult to find named within British historical records, although it is possible the Indian National archives would be more useful since many records were transferred there, as far as I am aware anyway.
