Hi I have never been on a forum before so I may need a little help. I have been searching my Grandma's birth, supposed to be Nov 1886 in Manchester. On her gravestone her mother Mary Hancock died 28th jan 1917 aged 65, her father Joseph died 7th Aug 1921 aged 65 yrs. On the 1891 census Mary (my Grandmother) is 4yrs old father Joseph 35, Mother Mary 36 living at Back Spring gardens Bolton Lancashire England. I cannot find her Baptism or her Birth Cert.

Was Mary's (Mother)maiden name Doherty? Just looking for a marriage registration. There is one in 1883 in Manchester, Can't see any other that may fit. I cannot find them on the 1891 census. Where did you find that info?

in 1901 Joseph is living in a Lodging House in back Lane. Born Ireland, same occupation as 1891: Iron Moulder.

Mary is living at 39 Nale or Vale Street, Bolton. States she was born in Warrington. He daughter Mary is also there, age 14, born Manchester.

It would help to know who your Grandmother married as her birth date will be on the 1939 Register....assuming she was alive then.

There’s an image of a gravestone on billiongraves that matches your names & dates for Mary & Joseph Hancock.

It mentions a daughter a daughter Winifred and her husband Matthew Valentine.

It states on the stone that Winifred died January 18th 1982 aged 100.



On 1939 register Winifred Valentine gives a DOB 25/11/1887

On the grave site there is also a memorial for a John Cunningham and his wife Eleanor. Eleanor's maiden name was Valentine. However her mother's name is listed as Hancock. She was born in 1921.

Also on the same grave stone as Joseph's is Mary Elizabeth Young, wife of Ernest. There is a marriage for a
Young marrying Mary E Valentine 1950.

Found the birth reg of Winifred, she was not the daughter of Mary and Joseph as she was born in 1927. I think she could have been the daughter of Winifred who married Matthew Valentine in 1912.
