Default Jorgen Henson RIIS born c1873 Denmark

According to his obituary in the LIncolnshire Standard and Boston Guardian dated on 39 July 1955 (page 9 column2)) Jorgen was born on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, and spent his young life as a sailor. He sailed to England many times on the 'William Hunter', and decided to settle in England in 1900.

Married Clara Ellen CLARKE, on 5 May 1904 at Skirbeck St Nicholas.
Parish register page 196 entry number 392.
Jorgen Hansen Riis, aged 31, seaman, living in the parish of Skirbeck St Nicholas. His father George Peter Riis, a farmer.
Clara Ellen Clarke, aged 22, living in the parish of Skirbeck St Nicholas. Her father Harry Clarke, a farmer.

1911 census reference RG14PN19600 SN259. Living in Skirbeck, Boston.

    1939 Register gives Jorgen's birthdate as 7 March 1873.

Jorgen was employed on the dock until he retired aged 75.
He broke his thigh two years before his death, and became an invalid.

He died in The Gables, Spilsby, where he had been a patient since the previous October.

"He leaves three sons and two grandchildren." No mention of Clara, and I can't find either a death or re-marriage for her. (Her birthdate in the 1939 Register is given as 11 April 1882.)

That is a brilliant find, Chris. Thank you.

The GRO's index confirmed she was Clara Ellen, and the Boston Guardian dated 24 January 1945 confirmed that she was Clara Ellen Riis of 47 Church Road, the same address as in 1939.
