    Default Honora Barrett

Hi, stuck on finding my GG Grandmother. Born in Ireland maiden name Honora Barrett (married McDonald). Father Peter Barrett and Mother Mary. Think she was born circa 1830's (she was married in liverpool in 1858 to Joseph McDonald also from Ireland...no details on him prior to Liverpool yet). I went onto Roots Ireland and they only came up with one which seems to be her. Baptism 18/3/1831 at Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork. Father Peter Barrett, Mother Mary Barrie. Child Honora Barrett. (we always thought is was Hanora but....). However when I look at the Parish transcript I cannot see Honora...looks like the child's name is NOVEY? Makes no sense to me and wonder if anyone has any ideas please?

If they married in Liverpool in 1858, have you checked the 1861 census? There's always a chance that they stayed around for a while.
    What was Joseph's occupation?

Remember that when names were given at that time, often the parent/owner spoke it and the clerk/minister wrote what he heard. Literacy was low. Be creative with the spelling variations you check.

Hannah and Ann were very interchangeable in the 1800s.

Thanks so much. Yes, I have been able to locate them in Liverpool but it shows on the census that they were born in Irelan so I am trying to trace them before they arrived in Liverpool. I thought I would try Hanora first and it does look like she was born (or baptised) in Cork but on the parish records it states NOVEY and I have no idea what that means? Was hoping someone might know please?

From #3 it looks as though Honora was using/being recorded as Hannah. Did you try that on the other records.

Yes thank you very much. I have managed to find Joseph and Hanora Honora, Hanna, Anna ) right through to their deaths. I also found their Son James through to his death in 1902 (my G Granddad) but I am trying to find Joseph and Hanora in Ireland
