I cannot find a death in the NSW BDM index for Thomas Ah Check who was the last person hung in Dubbo jail on 28/6/1904. He may have changed his name to Samuel when he was baptised a Christian just before he was hung. No matter how many variants I try, I cannot find a death record. Any ideas? Thanks

newspapers spell the name Ah Chick but that hasn't helped me find a death record
update - if he was 66 years old NSW BMD has AH CHICK registered death Dubbo. I found that by just putting Ah as the family name. If you type Ah Chick it won't find it for some reason.
reference 5203/1904

further update. NSW BMD finds Ah Chick if you type Ah as the family name and Chick as the First Given Name. Even though I guess thats technically not correct.

Chinese names are likely to be difficult to "translate" into English, and I've never been sure if "surname" is even applicable.
If he married in 1884, FMP (Findmypast) has turned his name into Tommy Ahcheek

yes sorry, if confusing. Only found marriage regn in BDM. Still looking for death regn. Perhaps no-one bothered to register his death. The family wouldn't have needed a death certificate in those days.

the Dubbo death registration I found earlier is on Ancestry with the same number 5203
Name: Chick Ah
Death Date: 1904
Death Place: Dubbo, New South Wales
Registration Date: 1904
Registration Place: Dubbo, Australia
Registration Number: 5203
in the dataset Australia Death Index 1787-1985
the only difference being that it doesn't say he was 66 years old. Is that age correct for your person ?

Good grief Wimsey, this back and forth doesn't say anything for my research skills, does it! Until you spelt it out in #9 I still hadn't understood #4. Really sorry, and thanks so much for your patience with me. I am very pleased you found the regn.
