    I don't think they were at sea at all. The entry was in the Edinburgh Gazette and on reading "how to search" instructions The London Gazette has recently linked all their records from all three Gazettes to each other so no need to search separately. So was it an article to record and thank those named for their services to the war effort. Unfortunately when searching specifically there is only the one page image shown without the ability to move < or >.
    Right have done a rudimentary search using just the publication date and it appears to me that it is a list of those who have been given an award of some dort for their war efforts. I did not browse the 900 or so pages!
