Default PITTOCK, John Wm H - b1901 Deal, Kent

There's a JOHN HARVEY MARSH in the WW1 Service Records (WO 363) who - as far as I can determine - was not born under that name.
I believe he is JOHN WILLIAM HARVEY PITTOCK (Q1 1902 Eastry - no mmn).
So if anyone is looking for him:

    Born 1 November 1901 (Deal)
    Mother: ELLEN MARSH
Home: 2 Vale Cottages, North Barrack Road, Deal
    Occupation: Fisherman
    Joined the Buffs (E Kents) on 3 November 1919, aged 18y 3days.
    Regt. No. 12698
Discharged 20 May 1920 - unlikely to become an efficient soldier.
(The Army did not mince their words - the kindest remark is "limited intelligence", so this is not recommended reading for those who are upset by non-PC language!)

The only two names on page of Dover marriage register Dec Q 1910 Albert T Marsh and Ellen E Pittock.

    At time of 1911 census Ellen's age recorded as 23 (b c 1888)

Birth of Ellen Ethel Pittock registered Dec Q 1887 Eastry.

If she was John William Harvey's mother, she would have been just about 14 when she gave birth.

It would explain his name changes - registered to an unmarried mother, who then married and called her child by her married name.
