Hi,
I am having trouble finding a Mercy Charlwood Charlwood born about 1864 in Ditchling, in the Lewes registration district of Sussex. Her parents were Harriet Sharp(e) and Charles Charlwood. She last appears in the 1891 census as a sister in law to George Bradshaw, then disappears into thin air! Any clues please as to where she went?
Thanks for any help given.
Regards,
Carol

I can't find a death for her mother Harriet either. She's not the one who died in Oxfordshire.
Jane died in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1946 and was said to have lived in Canada for 33 years.

Hi,
Can you help me any further with Jane? I assume you mean Jane Bradshaw, born about 1853. Are there any records you can send me about her as I do not have a world wide subscription to Ancestry. Jane Charlwood married George Bradshaw, did George also go to Canada? Were there any children of the couple out there as well?
Sorry to ask so many questions but I do need help on this.
Merry Christmas and thanks for your help.

Hi
I didnt save the records but I think I had her going out to Canada alone in 1919, but that would need checking.

Hi, I am so grateful for your help. Where abouts in the world are you? I am in the UK. Would you mind after Christmas if I came back to you for further help, as I am struggling with this family, and do not have a current subcription to research sites, and have so many questions to ask.
I believe te daughter on the death certificate was Anne Grace AKA Gracie, and as she is down as Mrs Davis must have married in Canada?
Many thanks
Carol

Hi Carol
I'm also in the UK but have a worldwide sub so I'm happy to help where I can.
I don't think that G Davies, daughter is Annie Grace/Gracie, as she appears to have married a Charles Henry Carter in 1921 in York, Ontario, at which time she was a widow with the name Grace Annie BURGE. Jane & George Arthur Bradshaw were witnesses and were also named as the bride's parents. Their address as 12 St Joseph Street, Toronto.
The CARTER family then moved to Batvia, Genesee County, New York, and this is one of their daughters:
Marjorie Joyce CARTER (Oct 1942: Name listed as MARJORIE JOYCE CARTER; Jan 1956: Name listed as MARJORIE JOYCE HARDY; Oct 1962: Name listed as MAJORIE JOY WEBB; 10 Aug 2007: Name listed as MARJORIE J WEBB)
Born 1 Oct 1926, Batavia, New York
Died 3 Aug 2007 Canandaigua, Ontario County, New York
Parents: Charles H CARTER & Grace A BRADSHAW
Grace Annie died 29 May 1947 in Batvia, and her memorial (along with husband Charles Henry CARTER d1950) is on FindaGrave.
Mrs Davies instead appears to be Rosanna Gertrude Bradshaw, born c1888.
A Gertrude BRADSHAW born 4 Aug 1888 & with a father named George was admitted to Woodland Road School (Lambeth) on 8 Sep 1896, and there is a marriage in Quebec 1n 1909 between Gertrude BRADSHAW & Thomas DAVIES. A son, Thomas Sydney James DAVIES, married in Toronto in 1937, aged 25, a Baptist, born England. His parents were named as Thomas Daniel DAVIES & Gertrude BRADSHAW, and his address was 122 Deleware Street, Toronto, which was also the address on Jane BRADSHAW'S death certificate.Last edited by Jomot1; 25-12-2021 at 1:48 AM. All in Bromley registration district, and all with mother's maiden name of Charlwood.

Ellen Harriet, September quarter 1882
Annie Grace, June quarter 1884
Jane Lilian, June quarter 1886
Rosina Gertrude, September quarter 1888.
Death registrations for
Ellen Harriet, less than a year old, December quarter 1882, Bromley registration district
Jane Lilian, aged 1, June quarter 1887, Bromley registration district.
Carol - remember to ask at your local library if they offer free access to Ancestry. From 1 January you will no longer be able to access it from home; only at the library.
The library may also offer free access to Findmypast. though that won't obviously include the 1921 census.Vulcan XH558 - “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”
