    Default Spam ostensibly from BG

Received a strange spam email ostensibly saying there had been a recent reply to a thread I was subscribed to.
There were two links in the email. One brought me to the thread referred to but the other I did not use as it looked too suspicious. All very odd.

    Hi Ed,

Was the notification message regarding this thread?
    https://www.british-genealogy.com/fo...ase?highlight=

If so, just ignore the message. We had two spam messages, which have now been removed, posted in the thread.

Your notification of this post to this thread should reassure you of how the notification system works and who the messages are sent by.

I guessed as much, Pam, but thought I would mention it. Perhaps you have blocked more of this type of attempted advertising than we realise.

You'd be surprised what the mods get up to behind the scenes.
Most of the blatant advertising and/or spam posts are spotted fairly quickly and deleted, though if we are a bit slow to take action because (for example) we're having a leisurely lunch a forum member will often press the 'alert' button when they spot an unwanted post.

For anyone who wants to know where the 'alert' button is - it's the little triangle to the left of the blue banner immediately below a message.

I forgot to add a 'thank you' to my previous post, as your query could have referred to someone pretending to be BG but obviously it was a genuine notification.
