Default birth not registered on GRO

    hi
i would like to get the birth certificate for Ann Elizabeth Wooten (Wootten) born 1st September 1839, christened 22nd september 1839 - woolwich - parents James and Mary
i have found the information on FMP & Ancestry so i know she exists.

but i cant find her on the GRO.

the only one i can find is Ann wootten - born 2nd quarter of 1839 in Eastry V5 P133.

i believe her parents were married in 1825 in woolwich - Mother Mary Smith -that is not certain as it is James Watton.
i found the Watton family in 1851 census , but could not find them in 1841 - she had several siblings all older than her so none of them appear on the GRO to confirm the mothers maiden name but all the children appear as Wootten in the searches.

obviously if i cant find her on the GRO i cant order a certificate.

any help would be very much appreciated.

    Many thanks

Ann was born only 2 years into birth registration, and a lot of babies were missed. However, I’m very curious to know what ANC and FMP give as the source of the data on their sites?

yes thats the info i have - James was previously in the army - most of the children (william , elizabeth, george and Mary)have been entered in the army records as births registered.

do i just assume that she is just missing from the GRO - is that common.

I think probably yes. This blog from the National Archives is a bit long but gives some interesting insights into the early years of civil registration:
