Dear everyone
I am trying to confirm the following:
I have William Richard Challinor born 1889 Kidderminster England died 1956 Willoughby nsw.
married Alice Green 1915 Sydney.
now according to his marriage cert, it states: parents Edward Challinor and Florence May Bird,
looking at the 1901 census it shows:
Edward born 1859 Walsall, wife Mary Emma
children William born 1889, SEymour born 1896
Cannot find a marriage for edward and Florence.
maybe they had an affair.
found a death for Florence May Bird 1896, so maybe William lived with Edward and Mary.
also, trying to confirm parents of Edward.
Edward born 1859 Walsall Staffordshire, father Thomas, mother Harriet.
also listed census 1871 with siblings William born 1858 and Ann Elizabeth born 1864
trying also to find marriage of Thomas and Harriet.
thanking you in advance,
Doreenh

What does the 1891 census say? Men often remarried rapidly after being widowed, especially if they had small children.

The 1901 Census referred to actually shows the following:
John Freeman Head Widower 76 1825 Retired guard chain maker Birmingham, Warwickshire
Emma Challinor Daughter Married 44 1857 - Birmingham, Warwickshire
William Challinor Grand son Single 17 1884 Accountant clerk (gas office) Birmingham, Warwickshire
Seymour Challinor Grand son - 5 1896 - Birmingham, Warwickshire, England
Edward Challinor Son-in-law Married 42 1859 Merchant's clerk (export) Walsall, Staffordshire
Piece 2882, Folio 105 Page 29
In the 1911 Census Emma is Mary Emma and Seymour is Ralph Seymour. According to the original form Mary and Edward have been married for 28 years and have two children, one of whom has died. Based on that it would seem to suggest that William from the 1901 census is dead. There are two possible deaths that would fit the criteria: William in 1907 in Birkenhead and William Edward in 1903 in Aberystwyth.
So how sure are you that the 1901 census you have found is the correct one?

Assuming the 1901 family is correctly identified, Free Bmd records these two names on same page, Dec Q 1882. Birmingham. Edward Challinor and Mary Emma/Emily Freeman.
GRO Index births.
Ralph Seymour Challinor. 1896 March Q Aston. Mmn Freeman.
PS I see others have got in ahead of me whilst I was typing!
