Hi
I'm looking for any information on an Italian PoW Camp in the Rutland area during 1944-1945. I'm trying to connect some missing information in my family tree and this is one area that I'm looking to either eliminate from my search, or continue following.
Any information or signposting in the right direction would be awesome.
Thanks
Amy

If you want more, it looks as though the Imperial War Museum also has information. See their (small) site HERE.

Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but there was an Italian PoW camp at Laughton, Nr Market Harborough. Image Leicestershire has a photograph of some of the PoWs in 1944.
Also if you search the Leicestershire & Rutland Record Office Catalogue there are a few mentions of more photographs and oral recollections.
I believe there was also one in Ashby.

Hopefully this link works.

There's a lot of reading to do, and I expect somewhere in the text is says how complete the list of camps is. There's none actually listed as being in Rutland.
I don't know if any of the links in this URL would be able to help

ADDED: I think Jomot1's reply might be slightly more helpful than mine!

Hi Amy
I realise I'm replying to a post that's been dormant for over a year - maybe I've come to the table too late.
I have also been researching Italian POW's in the British Midlands area - specifically Northamptonshire, which borders Rutland. There were several camps (some very small) in the county and the POW's were used to plug a labour shortage in local agriculture, even being provided with bicycles so they could travel to and from their places of work. My mother's family remembers becoming quite friendly with some of the men. In fact, there is a strong possibility that my biological grandfather was indeed an Italian POW. It you are still interested in this subject, do let me know.
