Found it (I searched for Wallam Street). It's Radford.
Wallam street is off Alfreton Road. Even number have gone though, only the odd numbers still standing.

OK the 1881 census: 2 Norton Place, Nottingham
John Thompson born about 1853 Nottingham - Printer
Elizabeth born abt 1855 Lace Clipper
Florence
William
Annie
John Henry
Plus a couple of boarders
Can't read the address on the 1891 census but they are still in Nottingham. John a Printer
John and Elizabeth, along with Mary (where was she in 1881?), Annie and John (age 10)

If you haven't already seen it, there's a pension card for him indexed under the name J. Ed Thompson, although you can only view the original document via Fold3. Mentions Thomas Wood.
It also confirms that he was in the 2nd Battalion KOYLI, as also shown on the medal rolls. Their war diary is on Ancestry or can be downloaded for free (after registration) from the National Archives: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/C7352257
