    Mis-filed in the MAR section of the WW1 Service Records - GABBEDY's application in 1940 for a replacement Discharge Certificate:

    - Henry William GABBEDEY
    - born London, 1888
    - address in 1940: 11 Devizes Street, London N1
    Service: 23 April 1906 - December 1918 demob
    Regiments: Queens West Surrey; RHA (4333X); ASC (38660)

    There's only one Henry W Gabbedey in the medals index - 43339 Driver of the RHA and 38660 of the ASC.
    I don't think he eventually got his medals (14 Star, Victory & British) - there's notes that they were not issuable. There's another note that he was a Retd Deserter (presumably returned) with the date 5 Dec 1918 and some code with the date 17 Jan 1922.
    It also says that he served in France, having reached there on 6 Oct 1914.
    No service or pension record on Anc.

    Very rare surname!
    Henry William G baptised 25 Apr 1888, London Docks St Peter, son of Henry William and Saline Ellen G. married Hilda Grace Passey 17 Jul 1910 in Southwark.
    In the 1911 they are in Camberwell, with a daughter, Winifred, aged 1.
    In the 1936 Electoral Register for Camberwell, He and Hilda are listed together.
    in 1939 he's at 11 Devizes St, Shoreditch, a motor driver (heavy worker). There's an inserted note saying he was known as Charles Wm. Pope. He's living with a Florence Butler and shown as married.
    D 15 Nov 1951. Both names given in probate, probate given to Florence Butler married woman.
    Hilda is listed in the 1939 as widowed. With her are her son Henry W. G (14, slop assistant in a butcher) and daughter Winifred Winston (13, shop assistant) as well as Helen F Passey (13, cook) Hilda died in 1968 in London.

    In the 1901 Anc has him with his parents and 6 siblings, name written as Gabbidy. Dad's a carman.
    in the 1881 Dad's in with his family, name transcribed Gabbervay.
