    Default Y-DNA R1-S3997

    Greetings from the U.S.

I recently took a YDNA test with Family Tree DNA, and found only two matches with my last name (Steele); both of which are fourth cousins. My haplogroup (HGp) is R1-S3997, and I do match a few others with that same HGp, but again only two Steele's.

I can only trace my dad's ancestral line back to 1764 in the colony of Virginia, to a "John Steel Sr.", though it is a 99% chance that the line originated in either England or Scotland.

So, I am asking if anyone else has had a YDNA test indicating they too are R1-S3997 so as to at least get an idea of where my ancestors may have come from.

Thanks, and blessings to you all,
    Rev. Ed Steele

    Hello again!

As a follow-up, I should have added that if you have the last name of Steel(e) but have a haplogroup of something other than R1-S3997, it would be helpful to know that as well. That would help to eliminate possible areas where my ancestors may NOT have been.

    Thanks again,
    Ed+
