Need details of info in service records

Hello. My Father's Particulars of Service state that he embarked for service overseas on 17.3.41 and disembarked in Middle East on 9.5.41. I am trying to find out what ship he was on and where he embarked. But I can't work out how to do that. Can anyone help?

My Father's Particulars of service states:

(BM1171/V659/AG8(O)d 4.5.44) Posted for special duties not remunerated from Army Funds within 3 days.

'To be specially employed (not remunerated from Army Funds) - 11.5.43 (W.O.O.23/44)' and then this ceases 11.9.44, when he is posted to IO. 101 SCI Unit.

Posted to 'Special Duties' not remunerated from Army Funds retaining T/Capt (WOCCI 4/45)- 1.4.45

Can anyone help me with what this means? There are lots of other reference numbers. I'm not sure is there are helpful.

I think you might be able to find out the name of the ship your father sailed on by reading the war diaries of his regiment which are held at Kew (The National Archives) but don't quote me on that.
