    Default Hostler/Ostler

    Hi,
My 3x Great Grandfather was listed as being a Ostler/Hostler/Horse Keeper on different records I have found in Wapping East London, living in Cinnamon Street or High Street, St Paul's Shadwell. How do I go about trying to find out where he might have worked. Do not know much about him. Thankyou

When did this happen? If it was during or after 1841, look for him in the census held every 10 years.

If it was before the railways (before 184os?) he probably worked in one of the inns of the coaching trade. Try directories. There is usually a bit in them about where the various coach routes started and terminated.

Hi Lesley, I believe he died in 1848, if I have the correct person. Only 1841 census entry I can find which could be him, he is listed as a Cooper, can't see that being him. He isn't with family.
