The Edmonds family appear to have been in the Devon area since the 1600's and I can trace a Gideon Edmonds back to when he was a rector at St Mary's in Exeter 1636. His son Gideon takes over as rector and then I lose him. The family covers Black Torrington, Shebbear, Holdsworthy, Bideford. I have Edmund Edmonds born in Shebbear Jan 1788 Married Rebecca and died July 11 1861 Cwnafan Swansea. He had 18 children. His father was John. I can come forward but Im stuck between Gideon (elder) and John, and all I have is his name. I am a direct descendant, my father was Richard James Edmonds born in Masterton NZ. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Meri

Meri, I think I'm missing something. Why do you think that the two Gideons are the ancestor of Edmund?
For example, who were Edmund's parents?

There's a marriage on FMP (image/transcript)of Gideon Edmonds, occupation Clerk, residence Combintinhead and Joanna Buckland on 8 Feb 1626 at Clist St George (as transcribed). The image is not the original record - it too is a transcription.
Would appear to tie in with the 1 hit you should get from previous post?"dyfal donc a dyr y garreg"

On the basis that Gideon, married 1626, is unlikely to be the father, a reference to a possible 2nd Gideon Edmonds appears -
