Eckhard was one of four brothers born to Josef RENZ and Helene Rosa (nee ABELE) in Posen, Poland.
He began his career in Germany, and became a world-renowned executive chef, working in Germany, Switzerland, and England.
He then moved to Montreal, and Halifax (Nova Scotia) before owning McCready's restaurant on Prince Edward Island.
He then moved to Baddeck, Cape Breton Island, where he worked for 22 years.
He died, aged 73, on 19 May 2016, in Westfield, Queen's County, Nova Scotia, and was buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Westfield.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Judy, and daughter, Tira.
