My father's eldest sister was born in Cheetham, North Manchester in Nov 1913 (in the Prestwich RD) just as the family were planning to move back to their families in Liverpool in time for Christmas. On 7th January 1914 the baby's mother went to the Liverpool Register office, gave her current Liverpool address as the informant and the Cheetham address where the baby had been born. The birth certificate shows that the Liverpool Registrar sent the info to Manchester. The baby's birth is correctly indexed as 1Q 1914 Prestwich.

    thanks, an interesting example.

thanks everyone. I think I started under the silly misapprehension that deaths would always be registered by family relatives which clearly they're not.
