    Default Anthony H-B

Hi, new on here. Been researching my family tree for a long time. The brick wall is this - My cousin in Australia was born in Twyford Lodge,Willesden in 1941. She was adopted soon after her birth. No fathers name is on the birth certificate but we have been told it was on some paperwork but was redacted. How can I trace records from Twyford Lodge? Was Twyford Lodge renamed Park Royal or are they two seperate hospitals?

    Thank You

    Anthony.

My mum worked at Park Royal during World War 2, but it's formal name was the Central Middlesex hospital.

I think Twyford Lodge was the Willesden workhouse. The link below will take you to best workhouse site which will give you pointers to records.

    Hello Anthony,

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

Back in the day, many workhouse infirmaries (often the only hospital available) were given an alternative address on birth and death certifiates so that there was no obvious connection to the workhouse.
Searching for 'Twyford Lodge WIllesden' brings up loads of useful hits including this one regarding the use of names as well as detailing where some of the records may be found.

In my opinion, it's highly unlikely that any record in the public domain will contain the father's name if it's not on the birth certificate.

I admit to being a bit vague on the the precise details about tracing birth parents if you're an adoptee, though I do know that only your cousin will be allowed access to her records. The best thing is for you/your cousin to search for 'tracing adopted parents', possibly adding 'UK' and then read the various results.

Although the forum is headed 'Adoption pre 1911' there's a 'sticky' at the top relating to adoption post 1911, and also reading through some of the queries posted in the forum may help.

Hopefully your cousin will have a successful end to her search.
