John's death notice says he was of Bolt Court, Fleet Street, London and also of Stanwell Moor, but had "lately been residing at Walton on the Naze" which is in the Tendring Registration District, Essex. Dorothy Charlotte's birth was also in Tendring RD.

It looks like Lucy died in 1944 & it was stated that her husband was Henry George.

Interesting, but the information on the certificate is only as accurate as what the informant knew or had been told. I know I sound like doubting Thomas but without us finding a marriage between Henry George and Lucy I'm inclined to think he was a figment of Lucy's imagination, but I'll keep an open mind and keep looking for evidence he did exist.

Oh, me of little faith. There is a possible marriage

    Marriages Mar 1905
    BARNES Lucy Romford 4a 510
    GEORGE Henry Romford 4a 510

So, why was Queenie Mary baptised with surname Barnes.

Would someone look at this passenger list, please? I think it could be Lucy and three of her children but their first names have initials only and the handwriting isn't very legible.

    Miss E D Barnes, Age: 11, born abt 1899
Departure Port: Liverpool, Arrival Date: 4 Jun 1910
    Arrival Port: Quebec, Canada
    Vessel: Laurentic

ETA: if it is them Lucy is travelling as Mrs L George.

I wondered why you said the writing wasn't very clear - there are two lists relating to the Laurentic - the passenger list leaving the UK and the arrivals in Canada:

The passenger list is very clear and I see:

    Mrs L George, housekeeper, 39
    Mr J Barnes, Farmer, 41
    Miss E D Barnes, child, 11
    Miss L George, child, 4

I've had a look and it does look like them although as you say, the writing is hard to read.Well spotted. The four year old looks like Miss Q George although the transcription ( on collections canada)was not Q.
Edit after looking at above post.
    I see
Mrs L George 48 widow, going to Toronto. Previous occupation housekeeper, intended occupation farmer.
    Miss Q George 4
    Mr J Barnes 17 clerk
Miss ED(? hard to read)Barnes 11
