Helping reading 1565 parish record, Bristol

Can you advise me where to seek help deciphering a birth record from 1565? I see I am not allowed to post attachments to this message.

Not sure if Ancestry have re-named that dataset but the title is now 'Bristol, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812'. Found the image by searching for John Busse, baptised 1565.

I can't read that old-fashioned writing, but judging by the 'u' in January and February, I would say that the second letter of the surname is a 'u'.
Remember that for many years the clergy spelt names as they heard/thought they heard them pronounced. (e.g. I've seen Eaton spelt as Eighteen.) Spelling wasn't standardised - isn't there supposed to be an instance where Shakespeare's name is spelt three different ways in one document? So this entry could still be your man.

Thanks to Christina for posting the 'how to upload' instructions. I asked for the online information simply because it's often easier to compare other writing on the page, rather than just be able to see a small snippet.

Yes, there have certainly been several variations in the spelling of the surname along the way. I’m wondering too how either Boyce or Busse would have been pronounced in those days. Perhaps “Boyce” would indeed have sounded like “Busse”. Any recommendations about where I could find this out?

You can upload photos images etc to Brit-Gen just make sure you are not breaching any copyright of the original. Below are the instructions on how to do it.

To upload an image to the forums the first step is to make sure that you are in Go Advanced mode on the Brit-Gen thread where you want to place the photo. Click on the picture frame in the row of images above the reply box. (6 from the RH side). The box that appears requires a URL address.
You have to upload your photo to a free site which will provide a URL address. I use Postimage which is very simple.
On the home page of Postimage click on 'Choose images' then find and click on the file you want to upload where you have the photo stored on your computer eg Pictures. Then click on the particular folder that holds your picture and Open it. Choose your photo, click on it and click on Open. You are now taken back to the Postimage page where you are given a choice of 9 links. Click on the URL 'Hotlink for forum' Now right click on the URL address and then click on Copy. Go back to the reply box on the Brit-Gen thread and in the URL box right click on your mouse and from the menu click on paste. The URL for your photo is now ready to be posted on the forum along with any information you have typed in to accompany it.
There are other free sites from which to upload images with URL addresses if you want an alternative.

I've now found the 'Go Advanced' mode - but I can only get it to appear if I go into 'Edit Post'. It appears we may automatically be in Go Advanced Mode when posting without knowing it!

When you click on Reply to Thread on the bottom left of the last post the box you type your answer in has three boxes underneath it. From lrft to right they are Post Quick Reply, Go Advanced and Cancel. Just click on Go Advanced and the reply box now has two rows of images/letters above it.
You can also move to the Go Advanced mode when you have started your reply in the Quick Reply box without losing the text already entered.
This also works if you us Reply with Quote.
