Default WW2 UK Army Service Record query

    Hello,

I would like to know if a photocopy of a death certificate will be accepted when applying for my Grandfather's service record?

He died sometime after the end of WW2 so I will need to enclose evidence of his death which I have in the form of his death certificate.

The GOV.UK website only states a copy of the death certificate is required. It doesn't state if a copy of the actual death certificate needs to be sent or if a photocopy of the certificate will be allowed.

    Many thanks,

    Nat

    A photocopy is fine.

    Hello Nat,

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

Unfortunately because of working restrictions due to Covid-19, at the moment the waiting time for receiving any records after applying for them is well over a year. Possibly as long as eighteen months. Having sent for my father's records last November, I have written to the Mod Unit asking what will happen to the cheque I sent as UK cheques over six months old are usually not paid by a bank. Having also made what I considered to be helpful suggestions, I'm awaiting an answer with interest.
