    Default Transcription Request

Very simply, I would welcome offers on what the entry says here for John, son of John and Sarah..... of Long Alley
    It's December 1743, St Leonards Shoreditch 1735-44 frame 121/150 - 3rd baptism on page
I haven't found another child or a preceding marriage

( Ancestry by the way - and they skipped transcribing this one)

Otherwise you need dataset London, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 and when choosing 'browsing' (right-hand side of page), St Leonard's Shoreditch is in the borough of Hackney.

The surname begins with an L but that's all I'm sure about.

    My immediate thought was Lawson.

If you look at the "L" of Long Alley further down - in the baptism of Ann Waller- and compare it to the first letter of the surname in question....

Isn't it Lawson? Hasn't it been transcribed as such? I'm very unfamiliar with Anc.

Ancestry appear to have declined to give a transcription for this baptism. I found it by chance.
I'm trying not to say what it looks like to my eyes! so as not to suggest to forum.

The "L" is to smooth to be an L! compare it with the L of Long Alley in bap of Ann Waller, same page.
When transcribing/searching I find L,J,F and S can all be confused and also T

So it has, I completely missed that.

However I am more sure than ever that it is Searrs.
There is a John and Sarah Lawson who married in 1733 in the city and had a daughter Helen baptised in 1738 in St Helen Bishopsgate.
There's no recorded John Lawson and Sarah marriage elsewhere

What do you mean 'it's too smooth to be an L'. The first letter is definitely an L.
S always has like a little dot at the bottom end of the letter.

My first thought was Lawson. I just hesitated actually saying it.
