    Dear Leslye

Do a lot of searching in the Amsterdam City Archives, where I always find lots of data. Have asked them about this marriage.

The main archive for London is the London Metropolitan Archives (LMA), but what sort of record are you hoping to find?

    Hi Paul,

I had a feeling you were going to say something like that.
First of all, turn the question around, and let it be my ancestor going from London to Amsterdam at the same time. What records am I likely to find in Amsterdam about his stay there?

I don't know if the big hotels such as Claridges, Savoy, Dorchester, etc, existed by 1899 and if they did, if they would have kept the registers of their guests from that long ago. (Assuming that they kept those sort of records in the first place.) With ordinary lodging houses I would say your chances of finding records are somewhere between zero and nil.

There is a wonderful newspaper archive - British Newspaper Archive -
    https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/
(also, except for the latest updates, available on Findmypast)
and depending on why he was in London he might get a mention.

I notice that you've posted this in 'Jewish Roots' so was your ancestor Jewish?
If so, and you post his name and a little bit about his background our resident Jewish expert, Phillip, might be able to find something.

    Hi Pam and Philip

His name is Joseph Koperberg, born in Amsterdam march 29, 1878, son of Roselina Koperberg and unknown father. She married barend Gokkes in 1884.
There is no mention of any reaosn why he should go to London, when he got back there is a note on his card stating: authorisation. He was 21 when coming to the Uk, he left after half a year so what was he doing there and why. Maybe escaping the law since he was in and out of prison. As far as I know he had no family there.
Hope someone can find him, thanks and have a nice evening,
    Best regards, Paul

    Hi Pam and Beek
This person was discussed on the thread Needle in a Haystack started 19.2.2021. There maybe a danger of repeating information and I think there were previous threads on the same people.
