Smile George Gorringe-Mary Ann Johnson 1844 Lambeth

    Good Evening all,
I have a brick wall which I would like help with please.it involves the couple above.
Here is what I have on them so far ....
George Gorringe married Mary Ann Johnson in Lambeth in 1844, George's Father was Richard Gorringe (correct) and Mary Ann's Father was down as James Johnson. But when you look at the GRO records to find the Mother's maiden name for the children, her maiden name is down as Boyce? But how can that be when her Father's name is James Johnson? The children I have from the marriage are Elizabeth/George James/Charlotte/William John/Richard Henry/Mary Ann, all have the Mother's maiden name of Boyce!!
Have looked for a marriage of a Boyce to a Johnson, nothing, so I am at a loss?
I would appreciate any help you are able to give me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Carol

On the marraige cert it states Mary Ann as a widow. Maybe a made up name for her father.

    Hi Pam,
Thanks for taking the time to research and reply, very grateful. I did think it might be a mistake on behalf of the registrar, but didn't think it could be made up??
    Thanks again.

It is also possible that she was illegitimate but knew who her father was.

On Her marriage certificate she was a widow, and married george gorringe, so somewhere along the line she was a Boyce, maiden name given for the children.
    Thanks
